How I finally stopped translating in my head and started thinking in English
Hey everyone! I've been studying English for about 3 years now, and for the longest time, I had this habit of mentally translating everything from my native language into English before speaking or writing. It made conversations slow and awkward. Recently, I tried a few techniques that really helped me switch to thinking directly in English, and the difference has been huge!
What worked for me:
- Describing my daily activities out loud in English (even if just whispering)
- Switching my phone and social media to English
- Keeping a simple journal where I write a few sentences about my day without using a dictionary
Has anyone else struggled with this? What tips do you have for making that mental switch? I'm curious if immersion through movies or music helped you think in English more naturally.
